My new video on Japan is posted on Vimeo. It is a fast paced video/slideshow of photos of Japan including Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Ise, Nagoya, and Sapporo.
Check it out:
It's also available on YouTube.

I've been neglecting to post recently, because I've been working on this Japan movie/slideshow project, that has really proved to be more involved than I expected. I hope to have it ready to post here on Monday.
For now, here's a cloud study, in black and white, from South Dakota. Enjoy.

I am in the midst of preparing a movie made up of photos from Japan. I hope to complete it over the weekend and post it here on Monday. In the meantime, here is a photo that I selected for the film, but which I think has never been posted in this blog. The scene is the grounds of the Imperial Palace in Kyoto.

I realize that this is a bit repetitive, but after posting the close-up of the Civil War Memorial on Monday, I got to work on a broader version of the scene, and I rather like the results. I was drawn out to take pictures by the wonderful clouds that day. Here, they make a fitting backdrop.

Another picture from Hakodate, Japan, today, although it could be from anywhere. A crow sits on a utility wire. I like how the graphic elements line up here, with the soft feathers of the crow contrasting with the stark lines of the wires, but still lining up to keep the whole picture in harmony.

I've been doing the black and white conversion on some old pictures that were shot originally on film. They present some challenges, because they can't be pushed as far as digital pictures--the information just isn't there. This one had some deep shadows that I was just able to pull some detail out of without devolving into noise and grain. Anyway, I hope you like it.
