Photo of the Day

This is a night scene on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana. We're looking at the back of the iconic "Alma Mater" statue, looking toward Green Street, the main avenue through Campus Town.

Here's a view of Main Street in Wild Horse, Colorado. Wild Horse is on U.S. 40 in southeast Colorado. It's just a wide spot in the road, but I found it fascinating.

I find that cemeteries are surprising good subjects for infrared. This is a view of Maplewood Cemetery, just north of Rantoul, Illinois.

Blowin' in the Wind

Here on the flat plains of East-Central Illinois the wind blows constantly. Not surprisingly, wind farms are sprouting all over the place. This is one just east of Paxton. Is it a good thing or not? I don't know.

On Saturday I did some exploring in East-Central Illinois. Here is a view of the big elevator in Ludlow. The original shot is infrared, rendered in black and white.

To fill out a week of countryside pictures, here is a shot from the Sand Hills in northern Nebraska. It gives a sense of the endless feel of that countryside.

Photo of the Day

Here is a scene from northeast Nebraska, not far from the Missouri River, in October of 2012. I processed it using something called the Orton effect, to create a moody landscape.

Photo of the Day

It was a nice day around here on Saturday, so I headed out into the countryside with my infrared camera. I found this scene south of Rantoul Illinois, looking across the winter countryside. I converted it to black and white, and then brought out the contrast.

This is a bridge over the Niobrara River in Cherry County Nebraska, on a nice fall day. Rendered in black and white (obviously).

I'm sorry posting has been scarce lately. I was sick last week, and now I'm trying to catch up.

Happy Groundhog's Day

In hopes of an early spring, here is a nice spring countryside panorama. Positive thoughts can't hurt.
