Photo of the Day

After last week's posts in black and white, I'm going for color this week. Specifically, color in trees. Spring is coming late in East-Central Illinois this year; it's almost May and the leaves aren't really out yet. So here's a celebration of the color that trees can provide. Above, an October shot here in Urbana of yellow leaves backlit by the sun.

I've decided to post black and white countryside pictures this week. Starting off is a view of the Bill Huss Chapel Cemetery, southeast of Urbana, Illinois.

Thinking of Water, and Birds

The advent of spring has me thinking about water--oceans and lakes--things I associate with summer, but don't exist anywhere near where I live, in East-Central Illinois. Birds are a portent of spring as well, so this week I'll be posting pictures of birds on water.

You have to look close at this shot to see the birds. It's a view of Chesapeake Bay, right by the mouth on Cape Charles, Virginia. In the foreground are some old fishing nets, with birds waiting for a free meal.

Monument Valley--Sunrise

Continuing with some photos of Monument Valley that I haven't worked with before, here is a sunrise view of mist shrouding some of the mesas.

Monument Valley--Sunset

I've been going through my photos of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park that I took on my visit there in 2010. I found a few I haven't really worked with much, so I thought I'd post a couple of them. This is a sunset view, looking west from the hotel and visitor's center.

Photo of the Day

It should be no secret that I love little country towns and old buildings, at least as photographic subjects. There's just something about them that catches my eye and inspires me. On Friday I had to run up to Chicago for work, and so I took back roads there and back. This is a shot I took in Rankin Illinois.
