Photo of the Day

This is a view of the famous Milwaukee Art Museum, designed by Calatrava. It's worth noting that, while most of my photos (nearly all) are taken with DSLRs, this photo was made on an iPhone. That's pretty good for a cell phone camera.

Photo of the Day

This is one of my favorite scenes to photograph, northeast of Sidney Illinois. It's just a country road with two trees along it, but there is something about it that I find iconic. I go back there from time to time under different weather and light conditions, and in different seasons. I was there a week or so ago at sunset and got this shot. I like it.

In the lovely Washington Green, Connecticut, this is the First Congregational Church. It was built in 1801, and is a classic example of a New England church.

This is the old Town clock in Dubuque Iowa, on a winter night. The pedestrian plaza in the foreground has since been torn out and reverted to street. The clock, however, is still there.

Believe it or not, this is an autumn photo; sunrise and surf in Monterey, California, way back in November of 1997.

This is a nice dreamy summer scene from South Kent, Connecticut, from this summer. As summer fades into fall, this brings back pleasant memories.

A final image (I promise!) from the DeSoto Wildlife Refuge in Iowa north of Omaha. This is an infrared shot of a copse of trees, converted to black and white, and rendered as a painting. I'm sort of piling on the effects here, I suppose, but I like it.

DeSoto in Infrared

This is another photo from the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge, as described in the previous post. In this case the photo is an infrared shot of a large tree on the waterfront.

DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge

I was at a conference in Omaha last week, and one afternoon I took some time off to drive north along the Missouri River to the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge in western Iowa. I didn't get to see much wildlife because it was a hot, windy day, but I did find some beautiful trees to photograph. Here is one of my favorite shots from the trip. I used a special filter on the lens to create a very long exposure, in this case 20 second, which deepens the colors and causes the clouds to blur a bit.
